Vanilla Ice continued...

Yep, thats me, talking to Vanilla Ice!:) (see more pix on Facebook)

Historic Dialog:

Me:"Hi, I'm from Ukraine and um, your song Ice Ice Baby helped me with English...:)"
Manager: "Dude Ukraine is in the house! she's from Ukraine!"
Vanilla Ice:"Ukraine? wow! Ukraine!"
Me:"Yeah, you helped me with English , thank you!"
Vanilla Ice:"Oh Wow, Wow, yeah, Ukraine!"

So he is all mad and hard core now! the first part of the show people seriously freaked out, no one was really dancing, people started to leave, I was not amused either. Than he remembered why he was there - to sing Ice Ice Baby for me and so he did...although in his hard metal new style. Well whatever, it was still great.Than he got all fuzzy, nice and sweet and started shouting "FAMILY!!! FAMILY!!!!" and "Friends!!!! Friends!!!" (I guess he did his research about Provo culture) and the crowd loved him again!

After the show, I may or may not have skipped an hour long line and got to talk to him though his manager. My key move was telling that I was from Ukraine and that I needed to thank him for teaching me English!

Vanilla Loved it! In general he seamed really appreciative for the love 80's dressed crowd of UT kids showed him. I hear he even decided to read Book of Mormon, like his buddy Snoop:)))

Yo, VIP! Lets kick it!

Many people ask me how I learned English so well. So here is the truth.

Long time ago, in the far away land of Ukraine some people, namely missionaries, introduced me to the magic rhythms of Ice Ice Baby. I liked that song so much that I went home and was fast forwarding and rewinding the tape with this song, until I wrote down all the words. I didn't really know English, so basically I wrote down close calls to English words that I assumed sounded like words phonetically: "if the was a problem, yo I solve it, chekuppbull why my Dj revols it". The hardest part I remember was "on anom they qick alimbo, I go crazy when I hear a simbo???" In any case, I trained myself to sing the whole song quickly and I would do it often while hanging out with Mariya on the ancient Podil streets in Kyiv. Long story short, now I am in grad school, studying media and communications and I can easily turn Vanilla Ice and his music legacy into a research subject. Also, I get to see him LIFE this weekend with MC Hummer.

Thats my story, Yo!

Word to your mother:)

Did You Know?

TV was actually invented by a Mormon guy Philo T. Farnsworth back in 1927. Its almost as cool to me as if the guy was Ukrainian, which is why I respect Andy Warhol:) Yep, you can Google it, his parent were Ukrainian-Slovaks.

from an old Russian cartoon "Hedgehog in The Fog" or "Ёжик в тумане"

Translation

-Its so good to have each other! - The little Bear nodded. -Just imagine, There is no me, your sitting here all by yourself and there is no one to talk to. -Where will you be? - I am just not there. -This is impossible, said little Bear. - That's what I also think, said little Hedgehog. But what if I am just not there, not there at all. You are all alone. What are you going to do? -I'll visit you. -You are so silly, said Hedgehog. I am not there at all. There is no me! Understand? - What do you want from me?!, said irritated little Bear. If there is no you, there is no me! Got it?

let the sun shining !

So finally, I got over a 2 week! cold plague that had made me feel as if my brain was slowly draining down my throat...oh, the amount of drugs I took!!! I was lucky to have some caring people who were nice enough to hug me back and feed me soup when I was winning:) and now I feel like I am born again! crisp and excited about learning, reading, playing and RUNNING. Oh man, thank goodness for the sun!

As I indulge into catching up with my homework today, I keep thinking about one of the perception fallacies that I have been reading and talking a lot lately... If we majority view other people and their actions through the prism of our own world view and the examples we pick from the media to remember...what part of reality about others we really do know and understand?

Did you know that if you are good looking and commit a crime, your jurors are more likely to judge you leniently? Yeah, even in that situation, physical beauty is associated with positive feelings and attributes... what about presidential elections?

Is objectivity ever possible or we are living in a constant bias?

Here is a quote from the article about the particularities of ethnographic research... very inspiring:

"Objectivity is an illusion - an illusion snuggled in the comforting blanket of positivism - that the world is ultimately knowable and secure." Gary Allen Fine
