3 Steps

I was walking on the pier enjoying the moist and cold wind from the ocean when I saw a lonely bird sitting on the broken side wall.

Poor lonely bird, why is she not hanging out with all the other birds.
They look like they are having so much fun sitting together.

And they like flying together.

Even staring at things together is fun.

So I decided to get closer.

The bird did not fly away. Another step...

Not scared by a human with a camera. One more step...

So close. What if I....

The touch!

Galyna Velbovets

If we are lucky, there are people in our life who stay with us no matter what. They give us their love and ask nothing in return. Their door and their hearts are always open for us even if we are thousands of miles away...

On one of my mom's birthdays, a bunch of her college and work friends came over and brought a few dozens of beautiful flowers. This picture was taken after the party by our family friend. He told us to look serious and smart. We did our best.

Walking around the apartment and enjoying the aroma from the fresh roses I remember thinking that my mom was an actress. I knew that she was a comparative literature student in Kiev Shevchenko University, always reading and writing for her research papers but I still thought that secretly, she was a superstar. Me and my dad also agreed that she was the most beautiful woman in the whole world. When I was falling asleep listening to my mom's typing machine, I really wanted to be like her.

Liliya - a first grader

Each September we celebrated my mom's birthday and each September I would get closer to becoming like my mom by starting a new year in school. This year is no different. Hello graduate school! Thanks mom.
