I am working as a lobbyist for the summer and my job is to educate restaurant workers about some stupid laws California is trying to impose on restaurants and then get them to write petitions to their local representative. You would think that in US people would understand this simple concept of democracy and took advantage of it...unfortunately sometimes I feel like I am talking to slaves who are owned by the Quinn and who are afraid to make any kind of decisions on their own.
I am sitting in yet another hotel in the beautiful Santa Cruz. We travel a lot for work this sumer. It is nice to smell the ocean again after the dry and hot air of Fresno and Modesto. No offense to those who live there, but these cities are BORING (except for the night when we got yogurt, played Frisbee/Marco Polo, and I got thrown into hotel pool), I liked the people though, so chill, nice and accepting. It is amazing to be traveling for free, can't wait for our trip to San Francisco and Sacramento next week.
Its been a few interesting weeks in my life...
I love the people who I work with, we have so many things in common and we learn a lot from each other as we work and live together...
Now about the burger. Living in LA me and my roommate were trying on several occasions to get somewhat close to celebrities (we went to a few beaches, drove around Beverly Hills, visited a friend who lives across the street from Antonio Banderas...still no luck). One day she got tickets to the Bill Engvall show in CBS studio. A group of us was very excited to be on the set but we soon learned that even with tickets we still needed to stand in line and in the end didn't even get to see that show.
However, earlier that day we were working in Anaheim and during the lunch the guy in this burger place accidentally charged 72$ to my dad's credit card instead of 7$. They refunded me but I didn't even get a complimentary anything for all the emotional damage. My dad called from Ukraine a few minutes later to see who was spending my money while I was supposed to be at work ( he does mobile banking that sends him text messages when the card is used). So while we were waiting for the show to start I was telling my friends this story, this black guy who works in CBS came up to me and was like (in the stand up comedy intonation):
Funny Guy: SAY WHAT GIRL? THEY CHARGED YOU 72 FOR A BURGER? THAT MUST HAVE BEEN SOME D* GOOD BURGER?
Me: Oh it was Farmer Boys burgers or something...
Funny Guy: OH D* GIRL! PAPAS BOYS BURGER"S BURGER. 72 BUCKS! AND YOU AIN"T GOT NO FREE STUFF?!! OH D*!
The guy was so funny he went on and on about it, our faces were hurting as he was making his stand up comedy show right in front of us and my 72 burger became the star of this show. The guy said that he was opening for a few comedians and someday he would love to have his own show.
So I am making it official online that 72 burger joke is my thang! And I would want the percentage of his income if he makes money from his comedy, although he does a better job telling the story:)
...laughter is the Best medicine and I am really thankful for the people in my life who make me smile.
